PK-12 students who attend Hoosier Chess Academy events earn points based on which events they join and how much effort they put in to consider new ideas, play different people, reflect on their growth, and go above and beyond to learn.
How many points might my child(ren) get?
Notation of a game at tournament or match: 10 points per game
Analysis of a notated game with a coach or Marshal: 25 points per game
Participation at Prodigy-in-Training Meets: 150 points per meet
Membership in one of our after-school enrichment programs: 250 points per semester
Participation at Hoosier Chess Circuit Matches: 300 points per match day
Participation in an annual tournament (e.g. Ben Harris, B-Town Blizzard): 400 points per tournament
Participation in summer chess camp: 1000 points per week of full attendance

Graduation to the rank of Squire: 400 points
Graduation to the rank of Knight: 600 points
Graduation to the rank of Rook: 800 points
Graduation to the rank of King/Queen: 1000 points
Important: The Hoosier Chess Academy points system is separate from our apprentice ranks (Page, Squire, Knight, etc.). Ranks are earned by demonstrating skill mastery with Marshals during PIT Meets. Points reflect participation and involvement in HCA programs, not curriculum advancement.
